Andrew on the Issues

You'll always know where I stand.

With more than 100 columns covering just about every topic, my record is clear.

I hope I am known as someone who offers specifics and is never afraid to stake out a clear position on the issues.  I'm proud that I ran for office as a fearless, unapologetic, small-government conservative, and yet I still succeeded in building a broad base of support.

Create Jobs and Build the Economy

Larimer County needs to lead the region out of this recession, emerging as the hub for business, job creation and economic development.  Northern Colorado should be a destination for entrepreneurs, innovators and investment capital.

Student WebIf we want to create jobs, we must fight to keep government small and let the private sector create, innovate, hire and thrive.

Protect Property Rights

Our agricultural heritage depends on the ability of property owners to control how they use their land.  Government should not get in the way of landowners who are looking for alternate sources of revenue so they can stay on their land.

I strongly oppose the use of condemnation or eminent domain as a means to transfer property to private parties.

Cut Taxes and Fees

Every time the economy struggles, politicians proclaim a "revenue shortfall" and ask the taxpayers for more money.  That's wrong, and it's a sure-fire way to start the tax-spend-recession-shortfall-tax death spiral that we're seeing in California right now.

If you want to create jobs and pull out of this recession, we need to make sure that businesses have the resources to expand and taxpayers have more money in their pockets to spend and invest.

Reduce the Size of Government

Our next County Commissioner is going to have to make some very tough decisions about what we expect county government to do.  With a looming shortfall, I believe that we need to reduce the size of government, even if it means cutting programs.

Build and Expand Water Storage Capacity

I support the construction of the Glade Reservoir and the full expansion of the Halligan Reservoir.  It's time to stand up to the scare-mongering and the extremists and get the job done.

Fight for Individual Liberty and Personal Responsibility

I have been a leading voice in the ongoing fight against the "nanny state" - people in government who seek to control our homes, our property, what we eat and how we live our lives.

This is not a minor side issue.  It goes to the core of our freedom as individuals, and every encroachment by government erodes our individual liberty.
